Surat Weir-cum-Causeway Reopened to Vehicular Traffic
Relief for People Going from Adajan Rander to Katargam
The Weir-cum-Causeway in Surat has been reopened to vehicular traffic after being closed for almost a month due to heavy rains. The causeway is a major thoroughfare that connects Adajan Rander to Katargam.
The causeway is closed to traffic when the water level rises above 6 meters. This year, the causeway overflowed in the month of September due to the release of water from Ukai Dam.
The municipal administration took up the cleaning and repair work on the causeway as soon as the water receded. The railings on the causeway were also repaired.
The reopening of the causeway is a relief for people who had to take major detours to reach Katargam. Many people had to go from Dabholi or from Mughalisara via Chowk Bazaar to reach Katargam. Due to heavy traffic due to Metro work on this road, drivers had to face a lot of trouble in the evening and morning and also wasted fuel and time.
The municipal administration has appealed to drivers to be cautious while driving on the causeway and to follow the traffic rules.
