Surat : Udhna Police Busts Mobile Snatching Gang in Surat, Recovers 24 Stolen Phones
Accused arrested on patrol, targetting passers-by with new mobiles
The Udhna Police in Surat city has busted a mobile snatching gang and recovered 24 stolen phones. The accused were arrested on patrol while trying to run away after snatching a mobile phone from a passerby near Daksheshwar Temple in Udhna.
The accused, Yasin alias Imran Irfan Ansari, Naseer alias Shahrukh Rashid Shaikh, and Mezan alias Nizam alias Babu Abdul Ali Shaikh, were found to be fond of using new mobile phones. They used to target passers-by who appeared to have new mobiles and snatch their phones. They would then sell the stolen phones at cheap prices.
The police recovered one moped and a total of 25 mobile phones from the accused, worth Rs 2.50 lakh. During interrogation, the accused confessed to seven incidents of mobile snatching recorded in the books of Udhna, Dindoli, and Pandesara police stations.
The police are investigating further and expect to solve other crimes of mobile snatching recorded in the city police books.
