Rajkot : Clash Erupts Over Stray Cattle Arrest Operation

RAJKOT: As the administration intensifies its operations against stray cattle following a state mandate, tensions between cattle owners and the designated cattle catching teams are on the rise. A recent incident in Gandhigram area saw a violent confrontation between the local Maldharis and corporation-employed cattle catchers.

The altercation reportedly occurred on Thursday morning when a cattle-catching team arrived in Gautam Nagar-4 near Gandhigram to round up stray cattle. As the team began their operations, local Maldharis protested against their actions. An unfortunate clash ensued, resulting in injuries to a woman who was then hospitalized.

The injured woman's son recounted the distressing event to the media. "In the morning, as we were milking our cows, the corporation team arrived and began loading them into their vehicle. My objections led to a physical confrontation, during which my mother sustained injuries," he shared.

Municipal Corporation official, Bhavesh Jakasania, corroborated the story, noting that their team had faced resistance from local cattle herders. "Our staff were not only prevented from catching the stray cattle, but they were also physically assaulted by locals who were looking after other cattle," Jakasania mentioned in his statement.

The matter has since been reported to the Gandhigram Police for further investigation. Local authorities are urging residents to remain calm and cooperate as they work to address the stray cattle issue.
