Rise in Youth Heart Disease Cases Prompts Special Measures in Rajkot for Navratri

The escalating cases of heart disease among young individuals across Gujarat, particularly in Rajkot, has raised significant concern, especially as the region approaches Navratri. Acknowledging this imminent health challenge, Rajkot's Civil Hospital has inaugurated a dedicated ward for heart disease patients, coinciding with the festive occasion.

Rajkot Civil Hospital's Superintendent, RS Trivedi, in a discussion with TV9, clarified that this special arrangement will span the entire nine days of Navratri. The new ward, housed in the hospital's latest building, boasts 50 beds, of which 10 are intensive care units (ICU). This enhancement will be complemented by a team of cardiologists, medical professionals, and nursing staff. The hospital administration is also set to launch a dedicated helpline number and deploy 10 ambulances for emergencies.

Advice for Garba Players:

Amidst the festive celebrations, players are urged to exhibit caution. The Civil Superintendent strongly advises players to take intermittent breaks and emphasizes the consumption of lemonade over other beverages during Garba. In case players experience symptoms like nervousness or chest discomfort, they should promptly seek medical attention.

Treatment Protocols Established:

The hospital is primed for a swift response. Upon arrival, every patient will undergo an immediate cardiogram, evaluated in the emergency ward. Patients displaying minor symptoms will be counseled and medicated accordingly. Those in more critical conditions will receive treatment in the cardiogram ward, followed by further diagnostic procedures like angiography, if necessary.

Sadly, the urgency of this health concern is underlined by the recent passing of six young individuals in Rajkot due to heart complications within a mere 48-hour span. Reports of such tragic events, including youths succumbing to heart ailments while engaged in activities like playing Garba or cricket, have further catalyzed the hospital's decision. The overarching goal is to ensure that young individuals diagnosed with heart ailments during Navratri receive immediate and effective medical intervention.
