Pioneering Initiatives and Strategic Location Propel the State to the Forefront of Green Energy

Gujarat Leads the Way in Renewable Energy, Targets 80 GW by 2030

GANDHINAGAR, October 3rd - Stepping into a greener future, Gujarat has made significant strides in the renewable energy (RE) sector, with remarkable projects such as the Gujarat Solar Park at Charanka and India's maiden canal-top solar power and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects.

Milestone achievements include providing 24/7 solar power to every household in Modhera village, Mehsana district, making it India's first village to boast continuous solar energy supply. With an ambitious eye on the future, Gujarat is in the midst of developing a colossal 30 GW wind-solar hybrid RE park in Kutch. Demonstrating a robust commitment to eco-friendly energy, the state has set its sights on achieving a mammoth 80 GW of renewable energy by 2030.

Remarkably, 30% of this ambitious target, approximately 22.5 GW, has already been realized. Boasting immense wind energy potential both onshore and offshore, Gujarat is at the forefront of sustainable energy development strategies. Furthermore, the state has enthusiastically embraced the electric vehicle (EV) revolution, with over 60,000 EVs registered, aiming for 2 lakh by 2025. Owing to its sustainable approach, Gujarat stands out as a preferred destination for global industrial investment.

Gujarat's advantageous geographical location, paired with its vast coastline, positions it as a prime hub for renewable energy ventures. International platforms such as the Vibrant Gujarat Summit play a pivotal role in attracting global investments and promoting renewable projects within the state.

Investment Potential in Gujarat

The state presents a plethora of investment opportunities in the RE sector, spanning manufacturing, services, and infrastructure. Prospective ventures range from solar cell and module manufacturing to renewable park development, EPC contracts, and setting up advanced transmission networks.

Pioneering renewable energy corporations, including Powerica, Siemens, Vistas, GE, and Suzlon, have established their successful wind projects in Gujarat. Notably, Powerica, as the first private sector entity, surpassed expectations by commissioning a 50.6 MW wind power project ahead of schedule in 2019.

The Suzlon Group, a leading global renewable energy provider, boasts extensive wind power installations worldwide. Their prominent manufacturing facility in Jamnagar, Gujarat, significantly contributes to their global renewable endeavors.

Gujarat: A Renewable Powerhouse

By August 2023, renewable sources accounted for an impressive 46.24% of Gujarat's total installed capacity, solidifying its leadership in the country's green energy arena. Contributing a significant 15.2% to India's overall renewable electricity generation, Gujarat stands as a beacon in the nation's journey towards a sustainable future.

This commitment to green energy is further exemplified by pivotal policies such as the "Gujarat Waste to Energy Policy 2022," positioning Gujarat as the premier choice for industries, businesses, and investors alike.
