Surat : Udhana Residents Protest Contaminated Water Supply; Threaten Election Boycott

SURAT: Claims of advanced and smart amenities by the Surat Municipal Corporation are under scrutiny as residents of Shiv Nagar Society, Pandesara, voice their frustration over a year-long contaminated water crisis. The long-standing issue has reached such severity that the community now threatens to boycott the upcoming elections and Vera Bill if a permanent resolution is not swiftly implemented.

In a poignant demonstration of their plight, a substantial contingent from Shiv Nagar Society converged at the Udhna Zone office of the Surat Municipal Corporation. Armed with bottles filled with the contaminated water they've been receiving, the delegation, which included women and the society's president, met the officials to convey their grievances. The continuous receipt of polluted water has not only angered the residents but has also been a source of health concerns. Reports of diarrhea and vomiting due to the tainted water supply have further exacerbated the situation.

According to Vijay Singh Rajput, the President of Shiv Nagar Society, the issue has persisted for the past year with no permanent solution in sight. "Even after informing the local councilor about the problem, all we've seen are token visits by officials. No substantive action has been taken," said Rajput. The residents are pressing the Municipal Corporation to replace the 25-year-old drinking water line, which they believe will provide a long-term solution to the pressing issue.

The ultimatum set by the residents highlights the severity of the situation, indicating that they are prepared to use their electoral power to draw attention to the matter and ensure necessary action is taken.
