Elderly Patients in Ahmedabad Civil Hospital Targeted by Serial Thief; Accused Arrested

The Ahmedabad police have arrested a man for stealing jewelry from elderly women patients in the Civil Hospital under the pretext of helping them. The accused, identified as Alpesh Prajapati, would gain the trust of old women and remove their jewelry on any pretext while providing them with medical assistance. Police investigations revealed that Prajapati had a history of similar crimes, having committed more than 15 such incidents in the past.

The Shahibagh Police acted on a complaint from an elderly woman who alleged that an unidentified man had snatched her jewelry while she was receiving treatment in the hospital. The police launched a probe, which led to Prajapati's identification as the accused. Upon his arrest, the police recovered valuables worth Rs 2 lakh, which he had stolen in various crimes.

Prajapati would frequent not only the Civil Hospital but also other hospitals on the same campus. He would gain the trust of his victims and later steal their jewelry by telling them that he needed to remove the jewelry to conduct a test or scan. The police have resolved three cases with his arrest and are investigating further.
