Surat Municipal Corporation's Ambitious Administrative Building Project Receives Significant Grant

The Surat Municipal Corporation is fervently advancing with the construction of its new administration building, located in the vicinity of Sub Jail on Surat Ring Road. This development followed the swift initiation of work on the project site, post the sanctioning of a Rs 1344 crore tender.

Set to feature two prestigious towers, the administrative edifice is eyed as a major project by the Municipal Corporation, encouraging them to solicit funds from the state government through the Unique Identification Scheme. Responding favorably, the state administration allocated a substantial grant of Rs 200 crore to facilitate the project on Saturday.

The upcoming administrative hub stands out with a distinctive feature: it is poised to become the maiden building in India to host offices of the central government, state government, and local self-government all under one roof, promoting unprecedented coordination and synergy among various tiers of the government.

This architectural marvel will span across a colossal area of 23.50 lakh square feet, accommodating two towers each soaring to a height of 105.3 meters and comprising 28 floors. The Surat Municipal Corporation will occupy a space of seven lakh square feet, while the remaining expanse will house offices pertaining to the state and central governments.

As the need arises, a substantial portion of 12 lakh square feet has been earmarked for government offices, out of which seven lakh square feet is presently allocated by the Municipal Corporation.

Reflecting the state government's commitment to the initiative, it had previously allocated a grant of Rs 91 crore in March. This recent grant allocation brings the total funds sanctioned to Rs 291 crore, demonstrating unwavering support for the project. As of now, a considerable Rs 200 crore has been expended on on-site work which continues to progress at a brisk pace, day and night.

Looking ahead, the Municipal Corporation plans to reach out for further grants from the state government, ensuring the smooth progression of this ambitious administrative project, that aims to foster greater collaboration and efficiency across various governmental departments.
