Community Care in Action: Health Camp Benefits Over 200 Industrial Workers in Surat
A collaborative effort towards a healthier industrial workforce in South Gujarat
In an effort to foster a healthier workforce, the South Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) and Sachin Industrial Co-operative Society Limited orchestrated a Disease Diagnosis Camp on Sunday, 17th September 2023. The initiative, in collaboration with the New Civil Hospital - Surat and the Rotary Club of Sachin, took place from 9 AM to 1 PM at the Rotary Hospital situated in Sachin GIDC.
More than 200 industrial workers benefited from the medical examination and treatment conducted during this span. The meticulous planning and dedication bore fruit as a team of renowned doctors lent their expertise for the medical evaluations, underlining the community's commitment to safeguarding the health of its workforce.
The President of the Chamber of Commerce, Ramesh Waghasia, emphasized the indispensable role of a healthy workforce in the growth of the industry. He noted the challenging work environments of loom and chemical factories, highlighting the urgent need for timely medical diagnoses to prevent long-term illnesses arising from constant noise and chemical exposures.
A distinguished panel of healthcare professionals led the medical proceedings. Dr. Bhavin Patel (ENT Specialist), Dr. Sandeep Kansal (General Surgeon), Dr. Jatin Bamnia (General Physician), Dr. Piyush Kanani (Orthopedic Surgeon), Dr. Tushar Patel (Ophthalmologist), Dr. Chintan Patel (Chest Specialist), and Dr. Jagdish Sakhiya (Dermatologist) were among those who offered their services. Besides medical examinations, the camp facilitated further guidance and dispensed necessary medications to the patients.
Preliminary findings from the medical examinations revealed a higher prevalence of hearing impairments, respiratory issues, and skin conditions amongst the workers. Addressing these concerns, the Chamber of Commerce pledged to provide deaf industrial workers with complimentary reports and treatment in the forthcoming days.
The Sarva Rog Nidan Camp inauguration witnessed the august presence of notable figures including the past president of the Chamber of Commerce, Himanshu Bodawala, Honorary Minister Nikhil Madrasi, and Dr. Parul Vadgama from the New Civil Hospital. Additionally, Nilesh Gami, Vice President of Sachin Industrial Co-op. Society, Rotary Club of Sachin's President Niral Akbari, Chamber Managing Committee member Mitul Mehta, and Sachin Notified Area Officer Priyank Menon graced the event. The outline of the program was presented by the group chairman, Nirav Mandlewala, while the ceremony was overseen by Dr. Jagdish Vaghasia, the chairman of the Industrial Workers Health Committee of the Chamber. The oral address was delivered by Mayur Golwala, the Secretary of Sachin Industrial Co. Op. Society Limited.
