Surat — The city of Surat is gaining recognition as an "Organ Donor City," thanks to the fifth successful organ donation facilitated by the Jeevandeep Organ Donation Foundation Trust in a short period. The recent donation from 37-year-old Dineshbhai Punjubhai Patil, originally from Moody Mandad village in Maharashtra but residing in Surat's Limbayat area, has brought renewed hope to seven lives.
Tragic Circumstances Lead to Life-saving Decision
Dineshbhai sustained a severe head injury after falling from a tempo while working. Despite immediate surgical intervention due to a brain hemorrhage, he was declared brain-dead after five days of intensive treatment at Diamond Hospital. His family consists of his wife Gayatriben, father Punjubhai, mother Neelaben, and brother Ashokbhai.
Family Chooses the Path of Organ Donation
After Dineshbhai was declared brain-dead, the Jeevandeep Organ Donation Foundation reached out to his family to discuss the possibility and significance of organ donation. Understanding the life-changing impact such a gesture could have, Dineshbhai's entire family consented to the donation process.
Multi-Organ Donation Benefitting Multiple Lives
With the family's approval secured, the Soto Institute of Gujarat Government coordinated the donation. Organs including the heart, small intestine, liver, and both kidneys were allocated to various hospitals across different cities. The eyes were donated through Lok Drishti Eye Bank.
Quick Police Approval for Green Corridor
A Green Corridor was quickly established to ensure the timely transportation of the organs. The Surat, Gujarat Police and the Airport Authority provided special support, allowing the organs to reach their destinations as quickly as possible.
The donation has not only enshrined Dineshbhai’s memory in a life-affirming way but has also added to Surat's burgeoning reputation as a city committed to the cause of organ donation.
