Gujarat Police Intensifies Operations, Arrests 2,789 Absconding Criminals

Gujarat, India — After reviewing an alarming number of cases involving absconding criminals, State Police Chief Vikas Sahay has spearheaded a significant crackdown this year, resulting in the arrest of 2,789 accused individuals who had committed crimes and absconded over the last five years. Among those captured, 612 had been on the run for five years or more, and 626 had evaded arrest for two to five years.

Acting on Sahay's directive to intensify operations against fugitives involved in serious crimes such as murder, attempted murder, extortion, and robbery, the police have arrested 2,789 suspects across the state. The arrests include 174 individuals in Ahmedabad city, 250 in Surat city, 131 in Rajkot city, 104 in Sabarkantha, 106 in Panchmahal-Godhra, 270 in Dahod, 100 in Surat Rural, 122 in Valsad, and 276 in Banaskantha.

Ahmedabad Takes Strides in Reducing Crime

In a dedicated effort to curb criminal activities in Ahmedabad, newly-appointed City Commissioner G.S. Malik led a series of arrests from August 1 to August 31, detaining individuals who had committed crimes in various parts of the city. A total of 72 suspects were arrested and sent to different jails across the state under the Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act (PASA). These include 29 involved in physical offenses, 22 in property-related offenses, and 21 in offenses requiring preventive detention.

The suspects were distributed among various jails, with 21 sent to Vadodara Jail, 20 to Bhuj Jail, 16 to Rajkot Jail, and 15 to Surat Jail.

A Continuous Battle Against Criminality

The significant number of arrests demonstrates Gujarat Police's renewed commitment to reducing crime rates and enhancing public safety. "Many accused individuals are absconding in the state, and this is a matter we are taking very seriously," said State Police Chief Vikas Sahay. He has instructed the police department to continue operations to apprehend fugitives involved in serious offenses, ensuring they face legal action.

As the police intensify their efforts, it is evident that even long-term fugitives are finding it increasingly difficult to evade the law in Gujarat. This widespread operation sends a clear message that the state police are dedicated to enforcing the law rigorously and safeguarding the community.
