SURAT – In a heartfelt gesture that speaks volumes about the cultural significance of Rakshabandhan, Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi visited an old age home in Piplod, Surat, to partake in the festivities. The minister tied Rakhis to the wrists of the elderly residents, seeking their blessings and pledging to uphold his responsibilities towards them.
"This is not just about the ritual of tying Rakhis; this is about reminding families, especially children who have forgotten their parents, of the importance of family bonds," said Sanghvi. He urged children to remember their parents and acknowledge the sacrifices made for them.
Sanghvi expressed his gratitude for having Rakhis tied on his wrist, describing it as a symbol of protection. He took the opportunity to address the role of the police in acting as a bridge between generations. "If we can instill this sense of duty and responsibility in even 50 percent of people, we will consider ourselves successful," he stated.
Additionally, the Home Minister commended the Gujarat Police and their Xi team, stating that today would be a "lucky day" for the force as they would receive blessings from around 70,000 senior citizens. He vowed that the police would intensify their fight against criminals, highlighting recent successes in drug cases.
Sanghvi also made promises regarding the improvement of law enforcement, particularly concerning women. "We will soon ensure swift justice in cases against women, and make consistent efforts to improve the system," he said. In a final cautionary note, the minister advised against reckless driving. "Remember, your mothers and sisters are waiting at home; drive according to the rules."
