Surat : Special Rakshabandhan Arrangements Touch Emotional Chords in Lajpore Jail
Sisters Visit Surat-based Lajpore Jail to Tie Rakhis to Incarcerated Brothers; Authorities Facilitate Emotional Reunion
SURAT – In a unique and compassionate initiative, special arrangements were made in Lajpore Jail, Surat, for the observance of the holy festival of Rakshabandhan today. Sisters of the prisoners were permitted to visit the jail to participate in the age-old ritual of tying Rakhis around the wrists of their incarcerated brothers.
This year, like the previous one, the ceremony was filled with emotional fervor. The atmosphere inside the jail turned poignant for a moment, as brothers and sisters were moved to tears during the ritual. "The scene was heartbreaking. It was difficult to see my brother behind bars, but the occasion at least allowed us a moment of unity and love," said one of the sisters present.
Vice President of Lajpore Jail, D.P. Bhatt, informed that the arrangements were specially made in line with the significance of Rakshabandhan, a festival symbolizing the sacred bond between brothers and sisters. "We wanted to provide an opportunity for familial bonding, despite the constraints," Bhatt stated.
The jail administration had taken proactive measures by notifying all the inmates in advance that their sisters would be visiting to tie Rakhis. "We took steps to ensure the inmates knew what to expect, and so the emotional preparation was there on both sides," added Bhatt.
Earlier in the morning, the local government representatives also extended Rakshabandhan wishes to the prisoner brothers, acknowledging the importance of the occasion. The event served as a poignant reminder that even within the confines of incarceration, familial bonds endure and significant moments can be shared.
