India Smart City Awards 2022 Announced, Indore and Madhya Pradesh Take Top Honors

New Delhi, Friday - The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has announced the winners of the India Smart City Awards Competition (ISAC) 2022 under the Smart Cities Mission. Among the accolades, Indore received the National Small City Award, Madhya Pradesh won the State Award, and Chandigarh bagged the Union Territory Award.

The competition attracted a total of 845 nominations from 80 eligible smart cities. From this pool, 66 finalists emerged victorious in five distinct award categories: 35 in Project Award, six in Innovation Award, 13 in National/Zonal City Award, five in State/UT Award, and seven in Partner Award.

Cities and Categories

Coimbatore secured the top ranking in the built environment category. Ahmedabad won in the Culture and Integrated Command and Control Center (ICCC) category. Other cities receiving recognition include Jabalpur for Economy, Chandigarh for Governance and Mobility, Indore for Sanitation, Water and Urban Environment, and Vadodara for Social Aspects. Hubli and Dharwad were also selected for awards. Surat won in two separate categories: Innovative Idea and Covid Innovation.

Industry Partners

In the Partner Award for Industry, accolades were bestowed upon Enviro Control Pvt (Infrastructure), L&T Construction, and PwC. The President of India is scheduled to felicitate the winners in a ceremony to be held in Indore on September 27.

A Commitment to Sustainable Development

According to a statement from the Ministry, the ISAC awards aim to "recognize and reward cities, projects, and innovative ideas that contribute to the 100 Smart Cities." The focus is on promoting sustainable development in cities, while striving for inclusive, equitable, safe, healthy, and livable environments that improve the quality of life for residents.

This marks the fourth edition of the ISAC awards, with previous editions held in 2018, 2019, and 2020. The awards serve as a key indicator of progress in the development and implementation of smart city initiatives across India.
