Surat Bus Conductor's Ticket Evasion Scam Exposed in Viral Video
A video capturing a city bus conductor in Surat taking money from passengers without providing tickets has gone viral, leading to outrage and exposing an ongoing issue within the Surat Municipal Corporation's (SMC) transportation system.
The video, shot in Varachha area, reveals the conductor's attempts to not only avoid giving tickets but also trying to snatch the phone of the passenger who recorded the incident. As other passengers confronted him, the reality of the conductor's fraudulent behavior came to light, sparking a larger debate on an issue plaguing the city's buses.
The widespread complaint is that the agency supplying conductors and drivers to SMC's CT buses fails to pay adequate wages to its employees. This has reportedly led to numerous cases of conductors stealing money, as evidenced by multiple incidents in the past week alone where passengers were charged without being provided tickets.
Despite the known issue, efforts to stop this theft have been unsuccessful. The Municipal Corporation's system has crumbled in front of the Main Power Supply Agency, resulting in SMC incurring a loss of crores of rupees every year. While passengers caught without tickets face no action and the agency is merely fined, conductors may be blacklisted, but without concrete action against the agency, the evasion continues unabated.
This latest viral video sheds light on an urgent need for reform, highlighting both the misconduct of individual employees and a systemic failure that requires immediate attention. As the video circulates, the pressure mounts on authorities to address the ongoing fraud, safeguarding both the passengers' rights and the financial integrity of Surat's public transportation system.
