Ahmedabad : Court Reserves Verdict on Pragnesh Patel's Bail Plea in ISKCON Bridge Accident Case
Ahmedabad Village Court to Decide on Medical Bail for Accused in Fatal Accident, Next Hearing Scheduled for August 24
In the ongoing legal battle concerning the ISKCON bridge accident that claimed nine lives, the Ahmedabad village court has reserved its verdict on the bail plea of Pragyesh Patel. Patel, the father of Fact Patel, stands accused of causing the fatal accident with a Jaguar car on the city's ISKCON bridge.
Pragyesh Patel had applied for medical bail, citing oral cancer as the reason. However, after hearing arguments from both sides, the court has decided to postpone its judgment until August 19.
Controversy over Medical Condition
Patel's lawyer argued that his client has been battling oral cancer since 2019 and has previously been granted relief for treatment by the High Court and the Sessions Court. He emphasized that Patel's next appointment for treatment is on August 23.
However, the public prosecutor raised concerns over Patel's medical condition, pointing out that the accused had not undergone any treatment after November 4, 2019. The prosecutor questioned the legitimacy of the presented receipts for treatment, noting a lack of clear evidence that the treatment actually took place.
Pragyesh Patel's lawyer, Nisar Vaidya, insists that his client has oral cancer and requires treatment at Tata Hospital in Mumbai. The bail application has been filed on this basis.
Upcoming Court Proceedings
The case is set to move forward, with both accused being produced in the Ahmedabad Village Sessions Court on August 24. During the last hearing, proceedings were committed to prosecute this matter in the Sessions Court of Ahmedabad Gram Nyayalaya.
Both father and son were present during the last hearing, responding in the negative when the judge asked if they had any complaint or representation. The next session will see the continuation of this closely-watched legal battle, as the victims' families and the public await justice.
