Surat, Dumas: The golden morning of Independence Day saw Dumas, near Kandi Phalia Mahadev Ovara, awash with patriotism as the Surat Municipal Corporation hosted a fervent flag hoisting ceremony. This annual national festival, which rotates between the Corporation's zones, was celebrated with gusto in the Eighth Zone this year.
The event spotlighted a rich tapestry of cultural compositions centered on nationalism. Adding to the festivity, the skyline was adorned with national flag-colored balloons released by the city's leaders.
Mayor Hemali Boghavala, after saluting the tricolor, underscored India's new era of self-reliance and gave a heartfelt salute to the country's brave martyrs. "The spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam is being propelled by various government schemes under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guidance," Boghavala stated. She highlighted Surat Municipal Corporation's distinct accomplishments, such as multilingual education initiatives, leading the state in e-vehicle registration, and impressive strides in reducing the slum population. Additionally, she revealed plans for 50-bed hospitals in every city zone and proudly acknowledged Surat’s recent entry into the Guinness World Records for a mass yoga event on International Yoga Day.
The programme also championed patriotism through various competitions. Winners in dress, speech, and essay categories were recognized for their spirited contributions. In addition, several departments and officers of the Surat Municipal Corporation, known for their exemplary services, were bestowed with honors.
Dubbed as "Mini India" due to its diverse populace, Surat is set to embrace a new identity as a Solar City soon. The day's events were also marked by a cutting-edge exhibition showcasing the fire fighting department's modern machinery and techniques.
