GANDHINAGAR - With India holding the G-20 presidency under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, Gandhinagar gears up to host a significant health track meeting from August 17 to 19. This comes as part of a series of G-20 working group meetings, previously addressing issues such as tourism, natural disaster mitigation, and environmental sustainability, which have taken place across India.

The Gandhinagar session is expected to witness the attendance of notable international figures, including JA Sisira Kumara Jayakody, Sri Lanka's Minister of State for Indigenous Medicine, Dr. Carla Vizzotti from Argentina, Bounfeng Phoumalayasith from the Lao People's Democratic Republic, and representatives from nations like Bhutan, Nepal, and Timor-Leste.
The event will kick off on August 17 with the Fourth Health Working Group (Deputies) meeting, graced by Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, India's Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare and Chemical Fertilizers, and Sudhanshu Pant, Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. This gathering will chiefly revolve around finalizing the Outcome Document based on the Draft Declaration.
PM Modi's Inaugural Address
Prime Minister Modi is set to deliver a virtual inaugural address on August 18, marking the commencement of the health ministers' meeting. This will be further complemented by addresses from Dr. Mandaviya and Secretary Sudhanshu Pant. The day will be packed with discussions on health emergency prevention, where leaders will deliberate upon 'Priority One on Progress and the Way Forward'.
Two intriguing panel discussions have been planned: one with the 'WHO Traditional Medicine Global Summit' and another titled 'One Earth One Health Advantage Healthcare India 2023'. As a nod to India's rich cultural heritage, delegates will begin the concluding day, August 19, with a morning meditation and yoga session. This sets the tone for deeper explorations into areas such as pharmaceutical cooperation, digital health solutions, and universal health coverage.
With the closing session capping the event, the G-20 Health Track meeting in Gandhinagar symbolizes a concerted global effort towards a healthier, more collaborative future.
