Attempted Suicide in Gondal Sub Jail Sheds Light on Prisoner Desperation

Rajkot - A distressing incident took place at Gondal Sub Jail late last night when two prisoners, under charges of severe crimes, attempted to end their lives by ingesting acid. The two young men, involved in the jail's cleaning crew, are now fighting for their lives in a Rajkot hospital.

Trilokiram Chamar, 22, and Kameshwarprasad Veerprasad, 25, began showing distressing symptoms around 1:30 am when they started to vomit profusely. Quick action by the jail staff ensured they were immediately taken to Gondal Hospital. However, due to the gravity of their condition, they were subsequently moved to a medical facility in Rajkot.

Kameshwarprasad has been incarcerated since April, facing charges under the POCSO section and alleged rape. Meanwhile, Trilokiram has been in Gondal's sub-jail since 2022, accused in connection with the Jetpur massacre.

Rajendrasinh Solanki, the Jailor of Gondal Subjail, shared some background on the situation. According to him, during a recent phone call with his family, Trilokiram pleaded for assistance in securing his release. Unfortunately, his family conveyed their inability to help him at that moment. This revelation seems to have contributed to Trilokiram's feelings of hopelessness. Kameshwar Prasad, on the other hand, expressed dread over an impending testimony against him in court. Fearing an inevitable verdict that might confine him to jail indefinitely, he too felt compelled to take drastic action.

This dire incident underscores the complexities and psychological pressures faced by inmates, especially those awaiting trials for serious crimes.
