Injured Porcupine Discovered in Surat City Awaits Recovery
Rare nocturnal creature, struck by a car, is now under the care of the Nature Club.
Surat - In a rare occurrence, an injured porcupine was discovered on the Jahangirpura-Variav road after being hit by a car. Local environmental and animal welfare organization, Nature Club, responded swiftly to the distress call and is now tending to the creature. Once fully healed, plans are in place to release the porcupine to a safe habitat.
Upon being alerted by volunteers from the Prakriti Projectors Organization, Nature Club members immediately arrived at the site. With concerted efforts, they transferred the injured animal to their rescue center in Vesu, Surat. Medical evaluations revealed an injury to the porcupine's hind leg, which is now receiving proper treatment.
Porcupines are primarily nocturnal creatures, naturally inhabiting forests and grasslands. Unlike some rodents, they aren't adept climbers or jumpers and generally stay grounded, dwelling in natural caves or burrows. Characterized by their sharp spines, they raise these spines as a defense mechanism when threatened. The sighting of such a creature in Surat, particularly an urban setting, is indeed unusual. A similar instance was recorded a year ago when one was found in the Adajan area near Prime Arcade.
