Mukhyamantri Yuva Swavalamban Yojana Supports Over 400,000 Students in Gujarat with INR 1,800 Crores
Schemes aim to improve access to higher education and increase the participation of women in the medical field.
Gandhinagar, Gujarat: Under the Mukhyamantri Yuva Swavalamban Yojana (MYSY), the state government has granted over INR 1,800 crores in financial aid to more than 400,000 students, furthering their dreams of obtaining quality higher education. The government's focused implementation of such schemes is realizing positive outcomes.
Per the agency report, the MYSY is designed to provide financial support to children from families with an annual income of up to INR 6 lakh. It extends assistance for a wide range of educational courses including Medical, Dental, Engineering & Technology, Pharmacy, Ayurveda, Nursing, Para Medical, Diploma, B.Sc, B.Com, BCA, BBA and BA. During the financial year 2022-23, 70,085 students were benefitted with INR 373 crores, exceeding the original target by 0.12%. In the current fiscal year, a target of INR 375 crores has been set to support 72,500 students.
The Mukhyamantri Kanya Kelavani Nidhi Yojana, another crucial initiative by the state government, aims to support female students pursuing an MBBS degree. It extends financial aid to families with a yearly income of up to INR 6 lakh, covering up to INR 6 lakh of the remaining 50% tuition fee. The scheme has already benefitted 3,850 students with INR 135 crores in the previous financial year, with plans to support 4,000 students with INR 140 crores in the current year. Since its inception, a total of INR 453.87 crores has been disbursed to 15,666 female students, empowering them to fulfill their dreams of becoming doctors.
In addition, the Scheme of Developing High Quality Research (SHODH) has been rolled out to bolster full-time research in the state's recognized institutions. The previous fiscal year saw an aid of INR 22 crores extended to 1,921 students, while the current year targets INR 40 crores for 2,000 students.
Under the stewardship of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the state government continues to work tirelessly to make higher and technical education more accessible to students across the state, thereby promoting advanced qualifications and encouraging students to contribute to nation-building.
