Surat : Fire Department Rescues Deadly Russell's Viper
Increasing snake sightings in residential areas raise concerns
SURAT: Amidst rising reports of snake encounters in residential zones, the city's fire department responded promptly to two such incidents. The more alarming of the two involved the capture of a highly venomous Russell's Viper at Thakurji's Wadi on Vesu Canal Road.
Fire officer Maruti Sonavane confirmed that his team swiftly intervened and safely secured the snake, which measured approximately four and a half feet in length and bore the signature brown spots of the dangerous species. A separate incident saw the discovery of a non-venomous snake in the parking lot of Mangalam Apartments opposite Vesu Nandani Heights. Local residents managed to catch the snake and subsequently relocated it to a distant forested area, post alerting the fire department.
It's worth noting that the Russell's Viper carries a potent venom known as hemotoxin. When a person is bitten by this snake, the venom causes the blood to thicken and clot. Recognizable by its yellow hue and distinctive black chain-like patterns, the viper's presence in residential areas underscores the need for increased vigilance and safety measures.
