Ahmedabad : Moneylender Arrested in ₹3.27 Crore Land Scam

Economic Offenses Wing clamps down on Dharmesh Patel over dubious property dealings

Ahmedabad : Moneylender Arrested in ₹3.27 Crore Land Scam

AHMEDABAD — Moneylender, Dharmesh Patel, has been taken into custody by the Economic Offenses Wing following allegations of fraudulent land transactions exceeding three crores.

An initial inquiry into Patel's dealings revealed a case of usury registered against him at the Narol police station, which subsequently caught the attention of the Crime Branch. In a public call-to-action, the Crime Branch appealed to victims of predatory lending to come forward with complaints against perpetrators like Patel.

In the midst of these investigations, Kamlaben Bhati and her spouse, Subhashbhai Bhati, entered into an agreement with Patel to sell their agricultural land in Daskroi for ₹3.47 crores. However, after Patel provided an initial payment of ₹20 lakhs to gain the Bhati's trust and secure the property documentation, he failed to remit the outstanding ₹3.27 crores.

Following the incomplete payment, a civil suit was initiated by the Bhati family to nullify the land deed. In defense, Patel produced a seemingly forged signed agreement in court. The ensuing investigation has implicated not only Dharmesh Patel but also another individual named Rajesh Patel. Based on the evidence and a transfer warrant, Dharmesh Patel is now under arrest, and further legal proceedings are in motion.
