Ahmedabad Honeytrap Scam: Two Main Accused Apprehended
Six months on the run ends in arrest for duo involved in elaborate extortion plot
AHMEDABAD — The city's Crime Branch has successfully detained two key suspects in a 'honeytrap' scam, concluding a six-month manhunt. The two were initially charged at the Naroda police station following an incident that saw one of their accomplices caught red-handed, while they managed to flee the scene.
The incident unfolded about six months ago, when a woman named Shilpa Prajapati, along with two men, Sunil Sharma and Zubair Ahmed Sheikh, ensnared an unsuspecting man in the Naroda Patiya area during broad daylight. After persuading the victim to join them, they led him to an associate's house, owned by Vijaya Panchal.
Once there, the victim was made semi-conscious using a substance in his coffee. Upon regaining his consciousness, he found himself compromised, at which point Shilpa demanded a ransom, threatening to falsely accuse him of rape otherwise.
The following day, arrangements for the ransom payment were set. However, as the payment was about to be made, police intervened, capturing one of their collaborators, Mohit Chowdhary, while the main accused made their escape.
Following their recent arrest by the Crime Branch, plans are underway to transfer the culprits to Naroda Police Station for further proceedings. This case sheds light on the increasing instances of 'honeytrap' schemes in the city, with authorities urging citizens to remain cautious.
