Surat's Traffic Woes Intensify: Major Road Diversions Due to Metro Construction

Surat: As Surat progresses with its metro project, drivers face a maze of diversions, leading them far from their usual paths. Major thoroughfares have been temporarily closed, pushing drivers to navigate longer alternative routes, increasing their journey durations significantly.

The Rajmarg, a crucial route for many, now has a diversion stemming from a tower construction site, directing traffic towards Jhampa Bazaar and Galemandi Road. With these roads already congested due to food markets, drivers find themselves taking an additional 1.5 km detour just to return to the Rajmarg. This rerouting not only consumes extra time but also leads to heightened fuel expenses.

The Metro's ongoing work has also resulted in the closure of Chowk Bazar Road, forcing drivers to reroute through Kamalgali to Adajan via Nanpura. Busy roadways like Pal, Bhatar, Kapodra, Ring Road, and Anuvrat Dwar are experiencing similar disruptions. Even after the stipulated completion date for bridge construction at Kapodra, which should have eased traffic for those using the Kamrej Highway, barriers remain in place, extending the inconvenience.

Furthermore, barricades erected one and a half years ago due to the Metro project still stand, forcing residents to endure the painstakingly long diversions chalked out by the Surat Traffic Police's Planning Department. Even during rainfalls, drivers find no respite. This continuous upheaval in daily commutes has left residents frustrated, with the situation likened to a persisting "boil of ambition" that refuses to heal.
