Surat : Wall Collapse at Sarathi Residency Amid Torrential Rains
Several Vehicles Dragged into Drain; No Injuries Reported.
In the midst of intense rainfall on Sunday in Surat, a distressing incident unfolded as the wall of Sarathi Residency on Poona-Kumbaria Road gave way. This resulted in three cars and three bikes, which were parked nearby, being submerged in the water of an adjacent drain.
Located near the Khadi on Poona Kumbhariya Road, the residency saw heightened water levels in the creeks on both its sides due to the persistent rains. The surging waters led to soil erosion beneath the structure, causing the wall to collapse. Following the event, the Municipal Corporation's building inspection team, along with the fire department, promptly arrived at the scene to assess the situation and initiate response measures.
Upon the wall's collapse, terrified residents of Sarathi Residency quickly alerted the Surat Fire Department. Responding swiftly, the fire department dispatched three vehicles and a dedicated team to the location. They immediately secured the area and began rescue operations, successfully retrieving the sunken bikes and cars from the water.
DM Solanki, an official from the fire department, confirmed the details of the incident. He elaborated on the proximity of the residency's wall to a neighboring drain, which, when combined with the heavy rainfall, compromised the structural integrity of the wall by washing away the supporting soil beneath. Solanki also provided assurance that, despite the scale of the incident, there were no reported injuries or casualties, marking a silver lining to an otherwise alarming event.
