Surat : Newly Elected FOSTA Director Advocates for Expanded Voter Representation
Mahendra Singh Bhayal's journey from a low-wage worker to a textile market leader emphasizes change and inclusivity.
Surat: In a passionate call for democratic inclusivity, Mahendra Singh Bhayal, the freshly minted director of FOSTTA, is advocating for every trader of colored clothes to have voting rights in the organization. Despite the presence of around 80,000 cloth merchants across 220 textile markets in the city, FOSTTA currently limits its voter count to a mere 636.
Bhayal, who has been a pivotal figure at the Jash Textile Market, underlined several strides made during his tenure as secretary over the last five years. The Jash market boasts advancements such as a Fully Automatic Fire System, which is routinely tested to ensure safety. A notable shift to solar energy for the market's electricity needs, combined with a cost-effective approach to maintenance, showcases his commitment to sustainable and financially prudent operations.
Furthermore, the water harvesting system at Jash Market stands as a testament to innovative solutions addressing pressing environmental concerns. A video created by Bhayal highlighting this system has recently gone viral, reflecting the broader appreciation for such initiatives. With this system in place, rainwater is directed into a borewell, leading to a noticeable rise in the water level.
Reflecting on his journey to FOSTTA's directorship, Bhayal expressed gratitude towards Kailash Hakim's leadership and the backing of Saket Group President, Sanwar Prasad Budhia. Although initially hesitant about joining the electoral fray, the prevailing organizational inefficiencies compelled him to step forward and advocate for change.
The director's tale is also one of personal perseverance. Originally hailing from Mavdi village in Rajasthan's Barmer district, Bhayal moved to Surat in 1993. Starting with a modest job that paid just Rs.150, he gradually built his business empire, culminating in the establishment of Bhayal Silk Mills in Jash Market 12 years ago. Beyond business, Bhayal is actively involved in numerous community endeavors, holding key positions in several local organizations.
The FOSTTA community is currently buzzing with anticipation for the forthcoming swearing-in ceremony. Scheduled to take place at the International Convention and Exhibition Center, Sarsana, on Sunday, July 23, the event has the newly elected directors personally inviting market voters. Sources indicate that around 1,200 invitation cards have been prepared for this significant event, reflecting the importance of this new chapter for FOSTTA.
