Surat : Veer Narmad University Implements Four-Year Undergraduate Course and Credit Points System
New Education Policy Aims to Align with International Standards and Enhance Opportunities for Students
Surat, July 18, 2023 - Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) has taken a significant step towards aligning its educational framework with international standards by introducing a four-year undergraduate course, starting this academic year. The decision was made during a recent meeting of the Academic Council, which also approved the implementation of a credit points system. Under this new policy, students can accumulate 22 credit points per semester, with a total of 132 credit points over six semesters, allowing for greater flexibility in their academic journey. Additionally, students may obtain up to 40 percent of the credit points by studying in other universities or colleges.
The Academic Council meeting, held at Narmad University, addressed various issues related to the new education policy. Subsequently, a circular was issued by the State Education Department on July 11, mandating the calculation of 22 credit points per semester for all courses across all universities in the state. Following discussions, this rule has been implemented in all courses offered by Narmad University. Snehal Joshi, a member of the Academic Council, explained that each semester will contribute 22 credit points, amounting to a total of 132 credit points over six semesters. Furthermore, the university has replaced the traditional three-year graduation program with a four-year course, effective from this year. The fourth year will be optional, providing students with the choice to further enhance their knowledge and skills. However, those who opt for the fourth year will accumulate a total of 175 credit points, with 44 points assigned to the two additional semesters. Students can acquire 40 percent of the 22 credit points per semester by studying in other universities or colleges.
Moreover, the distribution of the 22 credit points requires students to obtain eight credit points from their major subject, four credit points from their minor subject, four credit points from multi-subject courses, and the remaining from other sources. Consequently, Veer Narmad University has initiated the statewide implementation of the 22 credit points system for four years of undergraduate studies.
Introduction of Four New Courses for Students Pursuing Overseas Education
Previously, Narmad University only offered a three-year undergraduate program, posing challenges for students planning to study abroad. Since foreign institutions typically require a four-year course duration, students had to invest an additional year after graduation to meet these requirements. However, with the recent implementation of the four-year undergraduate course at Narmad University, students pursuing international education can now save time and effort. Furthermore, the university has introduced four new courses specifically tailored for students aspiring to study abroad. These programs include PG Diploma in Database Management, PG Diploma in Java Technology, PG Diploma in DotNet and Mobile Technology, and PG Diploma in Web Technology.
