Impersonator Arrested for Fraud, Posed as Employee of Gujarat Gas and Electric Company

SURAT - The Surat Crime Branch has apprehended a serial fraudster who had been posing as an officer of the Gujarat Gas and Electric Company. The accused was captured in the Paldi area of Ahmedabad, with the investigation revealing his criminal activities dated back to 2012.

Kishore Ramesh Rathore, the arrested individual, had defrauded numerous individuals across several cities, including Surat, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Bhavnagar, Veraval, and Rajkot. Rathore convincingly posed as an employee of the Gujarat Gas and Electric Company, using the persona to swindle unsuspecting victims.

Rathore confessed to the Surat Crime Branch that he had committed over 30 such impersonation crimes. Prior to this, police departments in Bhavnagar, Kapodra, Rajkot, Fateganj, Umra, Gandhigram, Veraval, and Ahmedabad have recorded his involvement in 13 distinct crimes.

In one instance in 2021, Rathore allegedly conned a victim out of 50,000 rupees by promising a gas line for a new house in the Amroli Jai Bhavani Society. Another accomplice, Rohit Jarwalia, reportedly posed as a Gujarat Gas Company officer in the Umra area and extorted 25,000 rupees.

With Rathore now in custody, the Surat Crime Branch is currently investigating the full extent of his crimes and the potential involvement of more accomplices.
