Surat: Police Crack Down on Illegal Drug Sales in Medical Stores
Special Operations Group and Food and Drug Department Seize Narcotics from Two Stores Operating Without Prescriptions
In a significant operation against the illegal sale of drugs, Surat's Special Operations Group (SOG) along with the Food and Drug Department conducted raids on two medical stores. The stores, located in the Pandesara and Udhna regions, were reportedly selling intoxicating syrup and tablets without a doctor's prescription.
Acting on a tip-off that Jayveer Medical Store and Provision Stores at Pandesara Housing Board were selling drugs without a doctor's consent, the SOG sent an undercover customer to verify the claims. The operation confirmed that manager Vijay Somabhai Patel was indeed dispensing narcotic substances without any medical authorization. The subsequent raid by the SOG and the Food and Drug Department led to the seizure of 14 bottles of intoxicating syrup and 2639 narcotic tablets, resulting in legal action against the store.
The SOG conducted a similar operation at Vansh Medical Store in Udhna Gandhikutir. The store manager, Mithilesh Anil Shah, was found to be selling drugs without a proper prescription. The police seized 30 bottles of intoxicating syrup and 700 narcotic pills from the store. Legal proceedings have been initiated in this case as well.
These operations reflect the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb the illegal sale of drugs in Surat, ensuring the safety and health of the community.
