The Congress party in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly plans to take legal opinion on their position after not being granted the seat of Leader of Opposition, while pledging to play a positive role in the Assembly.
The budget session for the Gujarat Legislative Assembly has begun, and one of the early controversies has been the decision to deny the Congress party the post of Leader of Opposition. The Speaker of the Assembly, Shankar Chowdhary, had cited the Congress party's lack of numbers as the reason for the decision. In response, Congress leader Amit Chavda accused the government of taking decisions based on their strength of power and said that they will seek legal opinion on the issue.
Despite not being granted the position, Chavda stated that the Congress party would still play a positive role in the Assembly. The session will see one of the key bills to be discussed will be the Gujarat Public Examination Malpractice Prevention Bill, which aims to tackle paper leaks. It remains to be seen how the opposition parties will respond to this issue during the session.
