Four Accused in Surat's Largest Gold Smuggling Case Sent to Judicial Custody

Remand of Accused Concludes, Transferred to Lajpore Jail as DRI Doesn't Seek Extension

Four Accused in Surat's Largest Gold Smuggling Case Sent to Judicial Custody

Surat: The four accused in the state's most significant gold smuggling case, whose remand has just ended, were ordered into judicial custody by the court today. With the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) not pursuing an extension on the remand, the accused will now be transferred to Lajpore Jail.

The accused individuals, identified as Yasir Patni, Uvesh Imtiaz Shaikh, Mohd Shakib Mustaq Ahmed (alias "firecracker"), and Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Parag Dave, were caught smuggling more than 48 kilograms of gold. This gold was brought from Sharjah to Dubai in paste form, leading to the unearthing of the entire smuggling operation.

The remand of these four culprits, including a PSI, apprehended at Surat airport, came to a close recently. Following the completion of their remand on Wednesday afternoon, the court ordered them into judicial custody. Since the DRI refrained from requesting an extension, all four suspects were promptly sent to judicial custody.
