A blaze erupted at a clothing store on Bhatar Road in Surat, early Tuesday morning, decimating a significant amount of merchandise and equipment, including sewing machines. However, no injuries were reported from the incident.
The fire started at First Fashion, a store situated in a complex near Rupali Nehar in Bhatar. Upon receiving a distress call at 5 am, firefighters from the Majura and Maan Darwaja fire stations promptly rushed to the scene and managed to contain the inferno within a few hours, preventing what could have been a major catastrophe.
Firefighters had to combat the blaze for nearly two hours before it was brought under control, owing to the heavy smoke and flames that engulfed the store.
Pragyesh Patel, the owner of First Fashion, arrived at the scene soon after being notified of the fire. "The fire was detected when smoke began emanating from the shop," Patel said, adding that the air conditioner, sewing machine, and a large amount of clothing were incinerated in the blaze. Clean-up operations are currently underway at the site.
Fire officers reported that while a crowd had gathered at the site, caution was exercised to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring stores within the complex. The fire was successfully extinguished with the help of a water cannon, and thankfully, no casualties were reported.
The exact cause of the fire remains unknown and an investigation is currently ongoing to determine the circumstances leading to the incident.
