Gujarat Assembly introduces bill to tackle paper leaks in recruitment process

Proposed Public Examination Act Bill outlines stringent provisions of imprisonment and fines against the accused and aims to instill public confidence in recruitment examinations.

The Gujarat Legislative Assembly kicked off its first budget session for the 15th assembly on Thursday. The session began with tributes to the deceased, followed by discussions on the proposed Public Examination Act Bill. The bill aims to tackle the issue of paper leaks in the state's recruitment process.

Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi presented the bill in the assembly, highlighting that paper leaks occur due to the absence of effective laws against paper leakers. Sanghvi stressed the need for strict laws to curb such malpractices and protect the aspirations of young job seekers and their families.

The proposed bill outlines stringent provisions of up to 10 years of imprisonment and a fine of up to Rs 1 crore against the accused. In addition, the accused's property will be confiscated, and the loss will be compensated. The examinee found guilty of being involved in paper leaks will not be able to take the examination for two years, and a non-bailable offense will be registered against the paper leaker.

The government intends to pass the bill unanimously and create a law that instils and maintains the confidence of the general public while ensuring unquestionable credibility in public recruitment examinations. The bill also calls for severe punishment for negligence on the part of all government and non-government members involved in the recruitment process.

The proposed law aims to bring an end to paper leaks and ensure fair recruitment practices. Sanghvi urged all members to examine the bill closely and suggest amendments if necessary to create a strong and effective law.
