Fraud complaint registered in Surat after potato business worth 1.5 crore turns sour
A case of fraud has come to light in Surat after a dispute between two business groups over potatoes. The matter has reached the Poona police station, where a complaint of cheating has been registered under section 420.
Vikram Hargovind Patel, a 58-year-old businessman originally from Mehsana and currently living in Dream Villa Bungalow, Dindoli, Surat, does wholesale business of potatoes in New Sardar Sabzi Mandi under the name of Parmeshwar Trading Company. Patel filed a complaint against Sanjay Ram Patel, owner of TC Traders, Badan Singh Pal, owner of Balaji Trading, Atif Sheikh, owner of Sandhya Traders, Amitbhai, owner of Amit Traders, and Vrajesh Pal, owner of Krishna Trading.
Patel has known Sanjay Patel for five years, and Sanjay used to send potatoes to him from Mehsana. However, after some time, they stopped sending the goods, and about a year ago, Sanjay began calling Patel to inquire about potato prices. They resumed business discussions, and Sanjay made an offer to Vikram to trade with his TC Traders.
In a phased manner, Sanjay and his parties bought potatoes worth about 1.5 crore from Vikram. While around Rs 70 lakh has been paid, about Rs 81 lakh is pending. When Vikram requested payment, Sanjay Patel and his accomplices allegedly threatened him and ran away.
Vikram Patel filed a complaint of cheating against Sanjay Patel and others at Poona Police Station, and the investigation is currently ongoing.
