Surat's Mayor Inspects Dire Conditions at Smimmer Hospital
Mayor Boghavala Responds to Complaints, Orders Prompt Resolution to Hospital's Water Crisis
Surat's Mayor Hemali Boghavala made an unannounced visit to Smimmer Hospital today amid growing concerns about its deteriorating condition. The hospital, managed by the Surat Municipal Corporation, has faced an onslaught of complaints, including a critical shortage of water, impacting patients and their families.
The Mayor's inspection spanned several wards and departments, including paediatrics. Conversations with patients unveiled an array of issues plaguing the hospital, with an operational water cooler being a prominent concern. As a result, Mayor Boghavala issued directives to the hospital officials to urgently rectify these problems.
For the past ten days, complaints have been pouring in about a severe water shortage in the Smimmer Hospital. The scarcity has affected patients and their families residing on the first to seventh floors of the E wing. Even amidst monsoon, they are compelled to ask for water, demonstrating the severity of the crisis.
The opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillors have also been actively involved, inspecting the hospital every six hours and addressing various issues. The AAP had recently conducted an investigation into the hospital's management and subsequently lodged a complaint.
During Mayor Boghavala's surprise inspection, it was discovered that the water coolers installed within the hospital were not functional, further exacerbating the water crisis. The Mayor also noted complaints regarding the children's paediatrics ward, where the air conditioning system was reportedly non-operational. Mayor Boghavala has since ordered the hospital's administration to promptly address the issues brought to light during her inspection.
