Tragic Rainfall Aftermath in Rajkot: Six Houses Collapse, Claiming Three Lives

Rajkot was struck by a tragic incident as heavy rains led to the collapse of six houses in the Godra area of Jetpur, claiming three lives, including two children. The collapse happened due to the falling of rocks from an old fort, a consequence of persistent heavy rainfall in the area.

In the wake of the disaster, local authorities, fire brigade, and police promptly initiated rescue operations. Six individuals were reported to have been buried under the debris, from which three, including two children, were rescued. Tragically, one of the children later succumbed to injuries during treatment at a local government hospital. Efforts to rescue the remaining individuals are still underway.

Among the victims are 50-year-old Jayaben Rajubhai Makwana and two children, 10-year-old Meghna Ashokbhai Makwana and 7-year-old Siddhi Vikrambhai Shasda, who tragically lost their lives in the incident. Five other victims are currently undergoing treatment at the Jetpur Government Hospital.

The collapsed structures were dilapidated houses that were around a century old, raising concerns about the safety of such aging buildings, particularly during extreme weather conditions.

MLA Jayesh Radadiya arrived on site soon after receiving news of the incident, making rounds of the affected area and visiting the hospital to meet the injured. Expressing his condolences to the bereaved families, he assured them of all necessary assistance. He further promised to arrange for those severely injured to be transported to Rajkot for advanced medical treatment if needed. This tragedy has underlined the urgent need for ensuring safety standards for residences in the face of extreme weather events.
