Textile Market Thief Nabbed in Bihar, Cash Worth Rs 36.70 Lakh Recovered
Thief's Father and Friend Previously Apprehended, Rs 7.94 Lakh Seized
The Salabatpura police have arrested a thief responsible for stealing Rs 36.70 lakh from a shop in the Radhekrishna Textile Market at Nawabwadi, Ring Road, Surat. The arrest was made in Bihar, where Rs 27.50 lakh of the stolen money was recovered, hidden in a wheat box.
Pankajbhai Jayaprakash Bhandari, a 45-year-old cloth merchant from Udaipur, Rajasthan, now residing in Surat, runs Viram Prints on the ground floor of the Radhekrishna Textile Market. On June 16, an unidentified thief, donned in ganji-pants, broke into the shop via a window grill and absconded with Rs 36.70 lakh in cash.
In the course of their investigation, the Salabatpura police managed to trace the thief's father, 57-year-old Satyendra Narayan Brijnandan Singh (Kurmi Chowdhary), and friend, 30-year-old Mrityunjaykumar Babansingh (Kurmi), to Dalippur village in the Dhangai taluka of Bhojpur district, Bihar. From them, the police were able to recover Rs 7.94 lakh in cash.
To apprehend the absconding thief, Bittusingh, the Salabatpura police set up a camp in Bihar. With the assistance of local police, they successfully captured Bittusingh and uncovered the remaining stolen money, amounting to Rs 27.50 lakh, hidden within a wheat box at his residence.
