Approach of Newly Inaugurated Vade Variav Bridge in Surat Sunk Within a Month, Sparks Controversy

Approach of the newly inaugurated Vade Variav Bridge, a project costing 118 crores and touted as a significant development by the Surat Municipal Corporation, sunk within a month of its opening. The failure occurred after the first heavy rainfall of the season, leading to the bridge's closure and prompting allegations of corruption from opposition leaders.

The bridge, situated over the Tapi River, was hailed as a significant infrastructure improvement during its grand inauguration. However, sunked entire ramp at one end of the bridge during the initial rains has brought the project's integrity into question.

Dharmesh Bhanderi, the leader of the opposition, inspected the compromised structure and expressed grave concern over the wasteful use of public funds. He alleged corruption among the ruling party leaders and criticized the poor construction quality that led to the bridge's rapid deterioration.

Upon hearing the news, officials rushed to the scene to assess the damage. Opposition leaders from the Aam Aadmi Party, along with councilors and workers, also arrived at the site. They took to social media to share videos of the sunked approach of the bridge, thereby bringing the incident to the public's attention.

As criticism mounts over the bridge's premature failure, local officials have initiated their investigation. The incident underlines the need for stringent oversight and quality control in public infrastructure projects to ensure their longevity and proper use of public funds.
