Heavy Rainfall Expected Across Gujarat as Monsoon Season Arrives
Met Department Predicts Intense Rains Across Several Districts; Ahmedabad Prepares for Heaviest Rainfall
AHMEDABAD - The state of Gujarat braces for an intense monsoon, with the Meteorological Department forecasting heavy rainfall across several districts over the next five days. The arrival of the monsoon, which has officially commenced on Sunday, promises to bring relief from the sweltering heat across the state.
Districts including Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod Mahisagar, Vadodara, and Chhotaudepur are likely to witness significant rainfall. The state's commercial hub, Ahmedabad, is also preparing for heavy to very heavy rains within this period.
Scientist Abhimanyu Chauhan of the Meteorological Department confirmed the monsoon's official arrival in Gujarat. "After 48 hours, we expect heavy to very heavy rainfall in many areas of Gujarat," he noted. Chauhan added that the monsoon had already made its presence felt in some parts of Saurashtra, South Gujarat, Central Gujarat, and North Gujarat, and is set to intensify after two days.
Despite the late onset by ten days, the monsoon is already underway in 40% of the areas and 20% of the districts in Gujarat. Mumbai is also experiencing a similar rainy spell.
Additionally, the Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall in isolated regions of South Gujarat's Valsad district and other parts of South Gujarat, including Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli, Navsari, Tapi, and Dang, from June 26 to 29.
Chauhan emphasized the favorable conditions for the monsoon's further advance, setting the stage for a prolonged rainy season in the state from today.
