Surat's New Civil Hospital Achieves Organ Donation Milestone Amid Simultaneous Donations

SURAT - In a rare and remarkable event on the birthday of Tapi Maiya, two simultaneous organ donations have taken place at Surat's New Civil Hospital. Two brain-dead individuals, Arvind Mahanto from Bihar and Manojbhai Chavda from Jamnagar, have made a life-altering contribution, donating a total of four kidneys and two livers to six patients in need. This double donation marks a significant milestone for the hospital, completing a century of organ donations with a total of 100 organs donated in 31 programs over the past six months.

Arvind Ramchandra Mahanto, 45, a paper-making company helper from Bisanpur village in Bihar's Nawada district, fell ill on the 13th, experiencing dizziness near Boisar railway station. After initial treatment at a local hospital, he was transferred to Surat New Civil Hospital for further care, where he was declared brain dead on the 24th.

In the second incident, Manojbhai Ishwarbhai Chavda, a 37-year-old mason from Digvijay village in Jamnagar district, currently residing in Waghjari village in Tapi district, was involved in a tragic accident. On returning from Kadod village on his Activa, he collided with a truck near Kapura village. After initial treatment at Vyara Referral Hospital, he was transferred to Navi Civil, Surat, where he was declared brain dead on the 24th.

Dr. Nilesh Kachadia, RMO Dr. Ketan Nayak, Iqbal Kadiwala, and counselor Nirmala Kathud from Soto's team provided the grieving families with vital information about the significance of organ donation. Despite their profound loss, both families agreed to donate, offering a chance at life to others.

Both donors' kidneys and livers were transported this afternoon, with Manoj's kidney and liver going to I.K.D. Hospital in Ahmedabad, and Arvind's liver and kidney dispatched to Zyds Hospital-Ahmedabad and I.K.D. Hospital, respectively.

The Civil Hospital's team, including Civil Superintendent Dr. Ganesh Govekar, RMO Dr. Ketan Nayak, Plastic Surgeon Dr. Nilesh Kachadia, Neuro Surgeon Dr. Keyur Prajapati, Neuro Physician Dr. Paresh Jhanjmera, Neuro Surgeon Dr. Harin Modi, and Vice President of Nursing Council Mr. Iqbal Kadiwala, among others, played a crucial role in these organ donation efforts. Dr. Govekar praised the successful efforts of the new civil hospital, noting that these 30th and 31st organ donations have illuminated the lives of six patients in need on this day of devotion to Jeevdori Tapi Maiya of Surat.
