SURAT – Quick action by the local Varachha police led to the safe recovery of a 3-year-old child, hours after the toddler was abducted by an unidentified woman from Smeer Hospital in Surat.
The incident occurred yesterday when a pregnant woman visited the hospital for delivery. While she was being attended to in the MNCU ward, an unknown woman surreptitiously took the woman's three-year-old son, who was accompanying his mother. The abduction was meticulously executed as the culprit, finding an opportune moment, carried the child out of the hospital, covering him with the pallu of her saree to remain unnoticed. She subsequently escaped in a rickshaw. The entire incident was captured on the hospital's CCTV system.
When the child's family noticed his absence, an exhaustive search ensued within the hospital premises. Despite their best efforts, they could not locate the toddler, who was last seen in the ward. Upon informing the hospital's security personnel and the Varachha police, the local law enforcement team initiated an immediate investigation.
Using the CCTV footage as a critical resource, the police questioned rickshaw pullers in the area. Their collective effort paid off when the woman responsible for the abduction was apprehended within a few hours.
Meanwhile, the family was engulfed in a whirlpool of mixed emotions. While the joy of a new birth was marred by the sorrow of their missing child, the police's efficient action brought immense relief. The child was found unharmed and reunited with his family, who were overjoyed at his safe return.
