Ahmedabad, June 24 - Bold criminal activity is on the rise in Ahmedabad as robbers brazenly carry out daring heists, seemingly unafraid of police intervention. A recent instance in the Bapunagar area saw a worker of the Diamond Market's Angadia Pedhi becoming a victim of such audacious robbery, executed in a manner reminiscent of a cinematic thriller.
The victim, Mahendra Prajapati, an employee of Angadia Pedhi, was returning home with INR 46.51 lakhs in the parking lot of Yogeshwar Society, near Kakadia Hospital in the Citykotda area of Bapunagar. Three individuals, riding a motorcycle, approached him, brandished a firearm, and demanded the money bag. Despite Prajapati's attempts to raise an alarm, the robbers managed to execute their plan.
As onlookers tried to intervene and apprehend the culprits, one of the robbers fired a shot into the ground, creating panic and giving them the chance to make a swift escape with the cash.
Prajapati, a resident of Yogeshwar Society in Bapunagar, has been working at Vishnu Kanti Angadiya Pedhi in Diamond Market for two decades. His residence's proximity to his workplace has led to a routine of bringing home substantial sums of money after the locker at Pedhi is closed for the day, an action he deems safer than leaving the cash at the Pedhi.
The carefully executed robbery, according to the police, suggests the culprits had conducted prior surveillance on Prajapati. They allegedly timed their heist perfectly, knowing precisely when Prajapati would be carrying the large sum of money and that he would be alone.
To crack this case, the police have begun examining the CCTV footage from nearby cameras. Preliminary investigations reveal three individuals fleeing the scene on a bike with the stolen cash. The law enforcement authorities are now using this evidence as a starting point to unravel the details of the dramatic heist and apprehend the culprits.
