An elderly couple was held hostage and robbed of Rs 7 lakh by five robbers who broke into their home in Surat's Ranchhod Nagar Society in Adajan area. The couple, a retired professor of Navyug College and his wife, were terrorized by the robbers at knife point in their own home. The robbers opened all the cupboards in the house and threatened to take out the gold and silver before they looted the cash.
The couple was in shock and didn't have time to react to the sudden robbery. Nitaben Patel, one of the victims, said that the robbers put a knife on her throat and threatened to stab her if she made any noise. The robbers tied the couple's hands and legs tightly and covered their faces with dupattas.
The couple was set to leave for America in June, and the Rs 7 lakh was going to be converted into dollars. After the robbers fled, a stranger helped the couple and informed the police about the incident. The police arrived on the scene and started an investigation. The retired professor and his wife were shaken by the incident, and they urged the police to take immediate action and catch the robbers.
