Surat Exceeds Yoga Participation Target with 2.16 Lakh Registrations
Unprecedented Turnout Leads to Unique Venue Use for World Yoga Day Celebrations
SURAT – The city of Surat is set to break records with a staggering 2.16 lakh people registered to participate in the World Yoga Day celebrations on June 21. This number significantly exceeds the initial participation target of 1.25 lakh individuals.
As a result of this higher-than-expected turnout, local authorities have made the innovative decision to convert a municipal flyover bridge into an additional yoga block. The usually bustling bridge, a main artery for vehicles in the city, will instead be adorned with green carpet and filled with yoga enthusiasts for the celebration.
The state-level World Yoga Day program will kick off at the Y Junction in Surat's Eighth Zone, where the Chief Minister will preside over the event. The massive participation number has led organizers to initiate the process to register this event in the Guinness Book of World Records.
In preparation for the record-breaking attempt, representatives from the Guinness Book of World Records have arrived in Surat, and about 2,500 local volunteers have been trained to manage the event.
The decision to convert the flyover bridge into a yoga block comes as a result of the overwhelming registration response, offering a symbolic example of the city's commitment to health and wellness. Today, where vehicles once rushed along, individuals will be striking yoga poses in what promises to be an unforgettable World Yoga Day celebration.
