The Great Truck Heist: Crime Branch Cracks Down on Interstate Scam
Rajkot Crime Branch Busts Racket Renting Trucks from Rajasthan and Selling Them as Scrap
RAJKOT - A major scam involving renting trucks from Rajasthan and selling them in junkyards has been busted by the Rajkot Crime Branch. Six key perpetrators of the scam have been apprehended, including Della Malik, and the authorities are progressing with further legal actions.
The audacious conmen had devised a unique scheme of fraudulently renting trucks from different districts in Rajasthan and selling them as scrap at rock-bottom prices in Rajkot. The scheme evolved to evade capture, with the accused preferring to sell to scrap yards rather than to individual consumers, thus minimizing the risk of detection.
The racket had a twist: the accused would rent trucks from various districts in Rajasthan and Gujarat, only to sell them to Rajkot scrap yard owners via an intermediary from Junagadh. Once at the scrap yards, the vehicles were disassembled and their parts sold separately, further obscuring the origins of the stolen trucks.
Despite the cunning attempt to stay under the radar, the determined detectives from the Rajkot Crime Branch outwitted the criminals. The accused, now in custody, have confessed to renting 60 trucks to a scrap yard in Rajkot for scrapping, and more revelations are expected during ongoing interrogations.
The crackdown has led to the recovery of goods exceeding the value of 4 crores from three Rajkot junkyards, including truck trolleys, cabins, engines, fuel tanks, tires, silencers, bumpers, air tanks, and batteries.
Three ring leaders - Jamal Metar, Waseem Sama, and Imtiaz Ghanchi - were arrested from Rajkot. The list of arrested culprits also includes Kishanlal Rabari and Kishan Chowdhary, who rented the trucks from Rajasthan, and Lalit Devmurari from Junagadh. Jamal Metar, the owner of a Rajkot scrap yard, is currently facing charges in 15 different cases across multiple districts.
The unfolding case serves as a stark reminder of the ever-evolving tactics employed by criminal gangs, and the relentless efforts of law enforcement to stay one step ahead.
