Collapse of Newly Constructed Bridge in Tapi District Calls for Investigation and Accountability
Key Congress Leaders Demand Strict Action and Inquiry into the Matter
Surat, Gujarat - A newly constructed bridge over the Mindhona river in Tapi district tragically collapsed, leading to urgent calls for a thorough investigation and stringent action against those found responsible.
Prominent Congress leaders, including Dr. Tusharbhai Chowdhary, a Member of Parliament from Gujarat and former Union Minister, Darshan Kumar A. Nayak, General Secretary of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee, and Bhilabhai Gameet, President of the Tapi District Congress, have submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister. The leaders demand a rigorous examination of the incident and strict penalization of those accountable.
Nayak, also a cooperative leader and farmer pioneer, disclosed that the bridge, built by the Road Construction Department of the Panchayat, had cost over 2 crore rupees. Its collapse on Wednesday has raised alarming questions about the construction's integrity.
"Existing bridges and overpasses from the past continue to stand firm, but the collapse of this newly constructed bridge, despite today's advanced technology, is an extreme concern," stated Nayak. He insisted on proper investigation into the incident to determine the cause and assign blame where it's due.
Local leaders and conscientious citizens have reportedly flagged issues with the construction of roads, bridges, and overpasses. However, these complaints seem to have been ignored due to political manipulation, and consequently, the infrastructure is failing.
The leaders have demanded the immediate formation of an inquiry committee to ensure a comprehensive investigation of the bridge collapse. They insist on legal action against any entity found accountable and recommend blacklisting the responsible agency to prevent such incidents in the future. The leaders are adamant about the seriousness of the matter and the necessity to protect public interest.
