The coastal city of Surat in Gujarat is grappling with the impacts of Cyclone Biporjoy, with increased wind speeds and rising sea waves recorded. Surat, usually on the receiving end of cyclonic disturbances, is once again seeing its atmospheric conditions shift dramatically.

Late at night, gusty winds swept through the city, with the intensity akin to a storm. Concurrently, the sea turned turbulent, producing towering waves. In the preceding 24 hours, incidents of trees collapsing were reported in around 10 locations across the city.

Fallen trees were reported near Althan Dheeraj Sons, Maruti Industries near Laskana, Adarsh Society close to Ghodod Road, Adajan Pavitra Row House, New City Light Road near Anuvrat Dwar, and around 10 other locations including Athwaline, Gokulam Dairy, Gopinath Society, and Adajan Baps Temple.

One tree, uprooted by the force of the wind, fell onto a vehicle near Adajan Anand Mahal Road, causing significant damage to the car. Despite these incidents, it is a silver lining that no fatalities or injuries have been reported so far.

The fire department has been on its toes responding to these incidents, working diligently to mitigate the risks. Given the forecast for continued cyclonic conditions in the hours ahead, the department remains in high alert, prepared to face further challenges presented by the aftermath of Cyclone Biporjoy.
