Approval for EV Policy 2.0 May Be Granted in Delhi Cabinet Meeting

The Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2.0 of Delhi may be presented for approval in the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta next week, as informed by officials on Thursday. A senior government official stated that the draft of the new policy was made public in April for stakeholder feedback.

Authorities still need to make a final decision regarding the promotion of hybrid vehicles under the policy. The official mentioned that the government wants to include hybrid vehicles in the subsidy scheme under this policy, but there is some opposition from certain quarters. However, it has been observed that providing subsidies for hybrid vehicles has helped in the rapid adoption of electric vehicles.

The draft policy recommends a 50 percent exemption on road tax for hybrid vehicles priced up to 30 lakh rupees. Hybrid vehicles are powered by a traditional engine and one or more electric motors, with batteries that charge themselves.

The duration of the existing EV policy in Delhi has been extended until June 30. The official stated that there is a possibility of further extending the current policy, so approval of the new EV Policy 2.0 is essential.
