SURAT – In a tragic turn of events, a family from Sarthana, Surat, is facing a crisis as another member, Ruchita Moradia, attempted suicide two days after four other family members ended their lives in a mass suicide event.
The Moradia family, residing near Yogichowk in Vijayanagar, was plunged into tragedy when Vinu Moradia, his wife Shardaben, son Krish, and daughter Tina ingested poison in a joint suicide pact. Vinu Moradia had left a distressing phone call to his elder brother asking him to care for his surviving children, elder son Parth and daughter Ruchita.
Sarthana police have started investigations into the shocking incident, taking statements from local residents, extended family members, and particularly focusing on the elder brother who received Vinu's last call.
Amidst the ongoing investigation, Ruchita, the elder daughter, attempted suicide, causing further distress within the family circle. Currently, she is in critical condition, admitted to a private hospital.
According to police sources, Ruchita consumed phenyl in an attempt to end her life. She was immediately rushed to the hospital upon discovery, and authorities were promptly notified. The police have speculated that Ruchita's action was likely driven by depression in the wake of her family's tragedy.
Earlier investigations into the mass suicide have pointed towards familial discord as a potential catalyst. Parth, the surviving 21-year-old son, was reportedly unemployed and the cause of regular disputes within the household. Despite being of marriageable age, his lack of employment was a growing concern for the father, Vinu Moradia.
Parth was also noted for his constant engagement with his mobile device and frequent altercations with his younger siblings. These ongoing issues have led investigators to suspect that Vinu, distressed by the situation, may have decided to end his life along with his family. As investigations continue, the community grapples with this heart-wrenching incident.
